Thursday 21st July - Stratford & Oxford Today's trip takes us first of all to the Midlands and the town of William Shakespeare's birth - Stratford upon Avon. He was born here in 1564 and it is the birthplace that we go to first. This museum and house are recreated to look as they might have done in Shakespeare's time. Here we are met by our guides who take us around the key sights of Stratford. The Royal Shakespeare Theatre Lunch is in the shadow of the new Royal Shakespeare Company Theatre. There is time for a quick look araound before we journey south to the university town of Oxford. There is so much to see in Oxford and our guides show us some of the colleges and impressive sights like the Radcliffe Camera. There has been a university here since the 12th century and today Oxford is still a leader in further education. The day has been long but we have seen two of the most famous places in England - not a bad achievement!
