Wednesday 27th July - Blenheim Palace & Didcot Railway Museum

Blenheim Palace is situated just north of Oxford and has been the home of the Duke of Marlborough since the first Duke was given the land by Queen Anne in the 18th century.  It is a magnificent example of architecture and landscape and a fitting place for us to start the day.

Blenheim has connections to Winston Churchill but also has many wonders that are seen as you take the tour around the Palace.

Following lunch by the lake, it was a short coach ride to Didcot Railway Centre for the afternoon. Here the students were treated to a ride in a 1930s railway carriage and learned some interesting details about the history of British steam power and engineering prowess.

We are guided around and get to ride a train and see the great variety of machines on display.  In the evening the students challenged the staff to a soccer match, but in this case, experience triumphed over youth!
