Day Seventeen 28th July 2010 - Parliament / British Museum / Covent Garden What a treat to be able to go into the Houses of Parliament in Westminster. The day after MPs broke for the summer ISCA was into Parliament! We were escorted through Westminster Hall (the only surviving part of the old parliament before it was burnt down) and into the lobby area and through to the House of Commons, recognisable for its green leather and wooden panelling. Our guides are very knowledgeable and help us to get the most out of the visit. The House of Lords is still sitting so we cannot get to see this. But there is more than enough to see and no one leaves disappointed. After a short walk along the Embankment we have our lunch and get ready to board the coaches for the drive to the British Museum. The British Museum. one of the world's finest museums, is filled with antiquities from all over the world. An afternoon's visit is never enough but there is time top check out the Rosetta Stone and the important Parthenon marbles. There are around 6 million treasures (not all on display!) and they cover almost 1.8 million years of history. The museum is busy but it is good to know there is so much interest in history. After the museum we walk down to Covent Garden. It is a fairly short walk and fun to go through the heart of London. Covent Garden is a great place to explore, with all its shops and street entertainers. This is tomorrow's meeting point so it is good to get our bearings.
