Saturday 30th July - Windsor & Runnymede Our last day of touring saw the group split - one started at the historic site of Runnymede and the other at Windsor. Runnymede is where the Magna Carta was signed in 1215 and forms the basis of the British constitution and also that of the US. We walked to a monument that commemorates the signing of the Charter and then to a special memorial for J F Kennedy. This memorial was placed here because of Runnymede's significance to democracy. Awaiting the group was the steamboat, Nuneham, ready to take us up the Thames to Windsor. The leisurely ride up the Thames is a wonderful way to see the countryside and to enter the Crown Estate, all the better for the great weather. The views of Windsor Castle are spectacular as we make our way up the river. The Nuneham is 130 years old and one of the few steamboats on the river. We arrive in Windsor in style! Windsor Castle is a wonderful final destination. The Queen's premier home is a wonder of treasures and although it is quite busy it is worth it. There is a little time to do some last minute shopping before we board the coach back to Charterhouse. The other group do the same trip but in reverse, starting at the castle and then taking the Nuneham down to Runnymede. Once back at Charterhouse everyone packs and then we celebrate a fantastic three weeks with a barbecue and disco. There are quite a few tears at the end of the evening as goodbyes are said. ISCA now has its own Facebook page. Click Here to see it. With early departures tomorrow we all want to say a huge thank you to the students and faculty who have made ISCA 2011 such a great 3 weeks.
