London - Independent Day Lord of the Rings, Theatre Royal Drury Lane This was the day many had been looking forward to because it gave groups the chance to have a look at some of the things in London that we had not done on the trip and a chance to shop! The coaches dropped off at Harrods, the Hard Rock Cafe and Piccadilly and each group went off on their own route ready to meet up at the theatre in Covent Garden. All groups had an evening meal in various locations before the show in Covent Garden and then we all met up to drop any purchases off on the coaches before going to the Theatre Royal in Drury Lane to see The Lord of the Rings. The show was a real spectacle and I doubt that there is another musical in town that is so lavish in its production. The effects were amazing and there were many bursts of applause as another great sight filled the stage. The general opinion of the show was very positive. Perhaps it is a little difficult to cram all three of Tolkien's novels into one show but this should not deter those of you who have not seen the show from going - it is a real theatre event. Tired after a long day we boarded the coaches and returned to Charterhouse dreaming of Middle Earth and powerful rings!
