Winchester

Our first day off campus and after a late start and feeling a little refreshed after a night's rest, we headed off to

Winchester.  A presentation on the cathedral city before we left gives us some things to look out for.  The journey

takes about an hour and we are soon dropped off by King Alfred's statue and walikng to the cathedral.  A bite of

lunch and we are off to discover this city that has such great history.  The cathedral dominates the city and the

building dates from 1079 AD.  There are many treasures inside and we get to see the resting place of Jane

Austen along with some of the finest Norman architecture around.  Outside the cathedral there is Winchester

College (the oldest private school in England), a castle and the round table hanging in the Great Hall.  The city

has a good supply of shops and there is some retail therapy before we take the coaches back to Charterhouse.

Some of us swim in the indoor sports centre pool when we get back on campus or just chill out before dinner.
